trees / Japan, Kairakuen

2023

Kairakuen, Japan.

I don’t often visualize images way before I shoot them. But, while in Japan, I so wanted to get a patch of neatly-aligned bamboo trees.

Everywhere I went, I looked for such a shot. And, for three weeks, again nd again, I came up short.

It was only on the last full day there that I came across this nearly-perfect patch of bamboo — which, appropriately-enough lives in one of Japan’s three “perfect” gardens.

FYI: the three “perfect” gardens are all absolutely incredible; but they are as hard to photograph as they are beautiful.
