This is my first-ever portrait. And there’s a significant chance that it remains my best-ever portrait.

(Part of me hopes that’ll be so, and part of me fears it’ll be so. As I write this now —3 years and quite a few portraits later; many of the same subject— this remains my best.)

There’s something about this shot: it stopped me in my tracks when I first saw it, and it still stops me in my tracks whenever I see if today.

The subject is the wife of one of my best friends, on their wedding day.
